There’s one thing that bugs me about all that shareraw drama – the shareraw publishers are doing essentially the same thing as fansub encoders – take a TS and re-encode it into H.264. Yet the fansubbers constantly tell that they are doing it much better than those shareraw fags. Well, I’ve seen some comparisons and that’s generally right (see: http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/9364/ggvszeroraws.jpg – it’s old and about another group, but it shows the thing), but to be honest, many people wouldn’t give a shit (because they just want to watch it, and, as someone already said, BDs or at least BDrips are for serious archiving, and not TVrips). But anyway, why don’t just release an ASS script as soon as it’s done so anyone can play it with a share raw if they want?
The reason why is nothing to do with vid quality. The ts includes closed caption files which make the job of translating a hell of a lot easier.

@wondering guy: It’s used for stuff like text on a cellphone, a page in a book, writing on a chalk board, or a computer gui. It’s very impractical to fit it on the top and bottom of the screen with srt subs. Everything else most fansubbers use ASS/SSA effects for is completely pointless. Though I’d guess they just do it because of a combination of boredom and showing off.
